Johnson Dining Hall

Johnson Dining Hall, located in the University Center building, is an attempt to blend the antique architecture of the original campus with the decor of modern buildings. The dining hall has a high ceiling supported by large wooden columns. Gothic arches span the tops of windows, coming to a classic point instead of being hemispherical. A large portrait hangs over a stone fireplace. Decorative wooden moulding adorns the doors and windows. Large metal chandeliers dangle from the ceiling. The antiquity of the building makes the area seem more prestigious. The expansive ceiling allows sound to dissipate, bringing down the overall volume level.

There is also a modern touch to Johnson Hall. A drop ceiling helps increase the efficiency of the heating and cooling system. Track lights and fluorescent hat lights bring large amounts of light into the hall, making it brighter and more inviting. Contemporary green cushioned chairs and tables make patrons feel more at home. A green rug with colored accents spans from wall to wall, eliminating the need for cold, hard tile. Simple wall hangings and a modern wall clock add some present day decor to the hall. Finally, a radio playing popular pop music appeals to the students who eat in the hall.
